Srinagar, Apr 14: A devastating fire broke out in the congested locality of Rajouri Kadal in Srinagar during the early hours of Tuesday, damaging seven residential houses and causing significant loss to property.
According to officials, the State Fire Control Room at Batamaloo received a distress call at around 12:57 a.m. Fire tenders from multiple stations, including Syed Hameed Pora, Babadem, and MR Gunj, were immediately rushed to the spot within a minute to contain the blaze.
Given the densely packed nature of the locality, additional reinforcements were mobilized from Saidakadal, Gowkadal, Rainawari, and Nowshehra fire stations to assist in firefighting operations.
Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services, Dr. Aqib Hussain Mir, told Rising Kashmir that all seven structures involved were three-storeyed residential houses with GCI sheet roofing.
“Due to an apparent electrical short circuit, three houses suffered severe damage to the second floor, including roofing, ceilings, doors, windows, and household belongings, while four houses sustained partial damage,” he said.
He further added that the firefighting personnel displayed exceptional dedication and bravery in bringing the flames under control, preventing further spread in the highly congested area.
The operation was carried out under the overall supervision of ADGP Fire and Emergency Services, Alok Kumar, with senior officials present on the ground to closely monitor the situation.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a short circuit, though further investigation is currently underway.
